Rauchbier or 'smokebeer' is somthing of a
speciality of the brewers in Bamberg. The malt used in the brew is smoked in beech wood kilns and this imparts a real smoky flavour and aroma to the beer. This is not a novelty brew, the people of Bamberg have been brewing Rauchbiers for centuries. There is no doubt that this beer will come as a shock to some on first tasting but like all great beers, the thing that makes it unique is the thing that makes it great. Don't try it just once. This is a beer that may need repeated visits before the true splendour is appreciated. |
